NBHS Academic Team Just Keeps On Winning!

North Babylon High School’s Academic Team  continues to enjoy remarkable success at the Long Island Challenge. With wins in rounds 1, 2 and 3, the lineup of brainiacs has again earned a berth in the Suffolk County semifinals. Captain Adam Abdelaziz led his troops to a convincing win against cross town rivals Deer Park High School. Jared Ginsburg made his Challenge debut as the Bulldogs maintained a steady lead for most of the match. The game was blown open by North Babylon’s team in the 180 round, thus setting up a showdown with highly regarded John Glen High School later in the day. Kyle Gordon was pivotal in this back and forth bout, stealing the momentum from John Glenn on several occasions. North Babylon again broke it wide open in the 180 round. Peter DiBlasi and Christian Cederstrom combined superior buzzer skills with vast knowledge as the Bulldogs answered 11 of 12 questions correctly, securing the win and breaking the all time scoring record with a 480–215 victory. North Babylon returns to The Challenge studio to tape round 4 against Half Hollow Hills West on May 20.

Based on their success at The Challenge, North Babylon has been invited to compete in the Quiz Bowl National Tournament in Washington D.C. The Bulldogs will field two teams at that event. In addition to the Challenge Team, North Babylon will be represented by quiz bowl regulars Alexander Proctor, Leonard Campanello, Tausif Noor, B.J. Burton and Kevin Schmid.  Each of these students has considerable quiz bowl experience. Most recently they competed at Yale University where they posted wins over nationally ranked teams from Kellenberg High School and Stuyvesant High School. Two North Babylon teams battled it out against schools from all over the Eastern Seaboard and posted a combined 12–2 record. North Babylon is also set to participate in the Chatham Invitational where they are the defending Freshmen Division champions.
