Belmont Students Display Art at LI Children''s Museum

Students at Belmont Elementary School participated in a very special art lesson, and their work is on display at the Long Island Children's Museum until June 30th.
The lesson was inspired by a Norman Rockwell's painting "The Connoisseur." The painting depicts the realist/ illustrator considering an abstract expressionist work of art. The students at Belmont considered both forms of art and created their own drip paintings. They then replaced the man with the umbrella and hat with popular children's book characters. The students gave their literary character their very own umbrella and hat to hold as they "considered" their drip paintings. This innovative and creative lesson enriched the students’ understanding of different styles of art work, and gave them a deeper appreciation for art....while encouraging reading and having a whole lot of fun!
Congratulations to all of the students and to their teacher, Mrs. Carolyn Whitney, for this creative and original project.
