Elementary Students Visit Nassau Museum

Students from the classes of Paul Guadagnino at William E. DeLuca Elementary School, Renee Blank at Parliament Place, and Lisa Gregorek at Marion G. Vedder have been fortunate to participate in the Art Partners Program at the Nassau County Museum of Art in Roslyn, New York. In their visits during early February, students were led through the exhibit "Latinas!" by Department of Education Chair Patricia Lannes and her staff. While at the Museum, students had the opportunity to participate in discussions with Museum educators. They were also able to talk, sketch and write about their impressions of the art using visual thinking strategies to improve literacy skills while viewing art.

Under the direction of Dr. Kim Lowenborg-Coyn and with the full support of the Administration and Board of Education, the Arts Education Program in North Babylon is not only offering district children an artistic cultural perspective but is also working to improve children’s literacy skills. This was apparent to the staff at the Nassau County Museum of Art. Patricia Lannes, the Director of Education there, said of Paul Guradagnino’s class with whom she worked, "You can’t imagine how FABULOUS the kids in my group were. They were EXCEPTIONAL, the background knowledge, the sensitivity and the window into the paintings that they offered me was outstanding."
