HS Science Students: Build "Cell Cities"

As an integral part of the Living Environment curriculum, high school teachers must educate tenth graders on the basic structure of the cell and how its parts function. To do this, Mrs. Paino devised a creative project for her students and had them divide into groups and develop their own "cell city." This year's projects included traditional city sites, an urban park, a suburban house, Spongebob's Bikini Bottom and the North Pole.
Students worked in groups on their creative projects and had fun doing it. Nick Hautman, from the first period class, said of the project, "Our cell city in-class project was very fun, yet informative. We had to build a city with whatever supplies we had--paper, colored popsicle sticks, felt, etc." Chandler Cress said, "While doing this we got to have fun and learn at the same time."
The cell cities were evaluated and judged by Mrs. Hilt. First place winners were Brian Bianco, Musa Bryant, Cassandra Clairmont, Rebecca Dean, and Victoria Steiner.
