HS Students For a Better World Does Good Works

Students for a Better World, a club at NBHS advised by Veronica Murphy, has been involved in a number of good works this year, the most recent one being a Holiday Breakfast for community children which raised over $400 for Habitat for Humanity. Students could enjoy a breakfast with their parents, work at tables set up with arts and crafts, and pose for pictures with Santa. They were clearly having fun.

The club has also raised over $1500 for breast cancer research and is still raising money for the Long Island Breast Cancer Coalition. In conjunction with that, the club designed and sold "Team Scottaline" t-shirts in support of Assistant Principal Michael Scottaline's wife who was diagnosed with breast cancer this past summer. Ms. Murphy's students made over 50 pillows and seatbelt softeners for the Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition which they gave to women with breast cancer after surgery in get well bags. Club members also participated in the "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" walk at Jones Beach in October.

In addition, club members helped out at the United Palsy Festival of Trees at the Cradle of Aviation in November and are currently running a shoe drive for "Soles for Souls," an organization that collects gently used shoes to deliver to people in need.
