HS Students Make Cell Cities

As an integral part of the Living Environment curriculum, science teachers must educate the biology students on the basic structure of the cell and how its parts function. To assist the students in learning this topic, Mrs. Paino engaged her students in a hands-on creative project. Groups of five to six students developed their own "cell city," relating the role of each organelle (the internal components of the cell) to a structure that helps to operate a real urban area. This year’s projects included traditional city sites, an African safari," a military base, the North Pole and the entire universe. All of the students demonstrated enthusiasm, creativity and cooperation and had a fun week of building their masterpieces.
