Holocaust Survivor Shares Story with RMMS Students

An auditorium full of eighth graders at Robert Moses Middle School quietly listened recently as Mr. Werner Reich, a Holocaust survivor, shared his story with them. As Mr. Reich talked to the students about his experiences, he drove home a simple message about doing the right thing and standing up against what is wrong.
The attentive audience sat enthralled as Mr. Reich described being separated from his family, losing his toes in his struggle to stay alive, and being determined to make a life for himself after being liberated from the Mauthausen camp. He left the students with two important challenges: to remember that all it takes to create situations like the Holocaust is for the good people to do nothing and to be a JUST person, one who Judges the situation, Understands the problem, thinks of a way to Solve it, and Takes action.
Reacting to this powerful message, students flocked to Mr. Reich at the end of his presentation asking for his autograph and wanting to shake his hand, to hug him, and to express their admiration and gratitude for the sharing of his story.
