NBTO Gives Friend of Education Award to PTA Member
The North Babylon Teachers' Organization selected Kathy Vento, an outstanding community leader and high school special education paraprofessional, to receive the "Friend of Education" Award on March 25th at the NYSUT Long Island Directors 20th Annual Awards Dinner at the Woodbury Country Club.
Ms. Vento has worked with North Babylon's very active and indispensable PTA since 1988 and has held various offices from the elementary school to the high school level such as President, Vice President, Recording Secretary, and Treasurer. She has also served as PTA Council President, Vice President and Recording Secretary. She currently serves on the Suffolk Region PTA as Treasurer and has been the Education Chair as well.
In 2003 Ms. Vento initiated the Legislative Breakfast in North Babylon, an important event that brings politicians into the school so that community members can voice their concerns. As NBTO President Selina Durio says, "Kathy is an advocate for our children and quality education, and her work in the district is nothing short of outstanding. She is a true friend of education."
