NBTO Holds Annual Toy/Book Drive & Other Events

The North Babylon Teachers Organization held its Annual Holiday Toy/Book in December to help brighten the holidays with toys and books for 81 families and 270 children ranging in age from infants to 18 year old siblings. Each building participated by adopting families from the school. For instance, Robert Moses Middle School adopted 19 families and proved that the holiday season truly is all about giving. Everyone participated from paraprofessionals, custodians, secretaries, kitchen staff, teachers, security personnel to administrators so that 51 children could have a more joyous holiday season. The enthusiasm was district wide and reached beyond the buildings to the community. In Belmont, Robert Moses, and William E. DeLuca several members of the community showed up with either gift cards or cash donations to help out, and at Robert Moses community members donated hams and turkeys. The NBTO Retiree Chapter raised $390 to purchase gift cards to King Kullen for the most needy families within the buildings. The community did indeed come together to help the NBTO make this a very successful effort to help others.
Dedicated to community service all year round, members of the NBTO from each building in the district have “adopted” the Town Annex Food Panty for a month. For instance, DeLuca donated to the pantry in November, Woods Road signed on for December, the high school adopted the pantry for January, and so on.
A new community service project being kicked off in January is "Baby New Year." NBTO members will be collecting baby items and gently worn clothes to donate to the St. Cyril Thrift Shop and to local shelters in the area. In addition, the NBTO will also be adopting an 'animal shelter' this year, one that does not 'terminate' the animals.
