NB Athletes Win Awards
North Babylon continues to enjoy a successful athletic program with many athletes earning awards and representing the school in an exemplary fashion, excelling not only in athletic ability but also in scholarship. In fact, both the Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams received the New York State Scholar Athlete Award, as did both the Girls and Boys Soccer Teams.
In Girls Cross Country, coached by James Di Salvo, the team won the New York State Scholar Athlete Awards. Jessica Scheriff, Ashley Mandat, and Catherine Muhlenforth also won All League honors.
In Boys Cross Country, coached by Thomas Duffy, the team won the NYS Scholar Athlete Award. Kris Moran was named All League, All Division, and All County. Brock Schmid, Rashawn Perry, and Michael Calcasola earned All League honors.
The Girls Soccer Team, coached by Steve Corrado and Trish Lemanczyk, were a Suffolk County AA Semi-Finalist. April Makely and Catherine Sandkuhl made All League and Megan Binder made All Division. Christine Campanello, Casey Filippone, and Emily Ude earned All County. Filippone was an All-State (5th Team) selection by the New York State High School Sportswriters Association. This was the second time she made All-State. Emily Ude was named the League IV Player of the Year and was an All-State (1st Team) selection. Ude was among the point leaders in Suffolk County with 13 goals scored and 14 assists and was also selected to Newsday's All-Long Island Team. In addition, she was selected an All-East Coast Regional Pl;ayer by the National Soccer Coaches of America.
The Boys Soccer Team, coached by Michael Cashman and Vincent Innes, had five players win honors: Brandon Rodriguez and John McGrath won All League; Cody Satmary and Tom Knowles earned All Conference; and Louis Ferrogari received All County Academic recognition.
The Girls Gymnastics Team, coached by Roseann Feise, Erica Barone, and John Carrick had a number of athletes who won honors. Danielle Yzaguirre on bars and beam, Emily Catalano on beam, Nadine Villalba on vault, beam, and bars were named All League. Michelle Baietto won all League Honorable Mention and Emily Catalano was a Scholar Athlete.
In Field Hockey, coached by Caryn Rosenau and Lee Ann DePrima, there were three All Division players: Nicole Marzocca, Kaitlyn McKenzie, and Alyssa Ferro.
In Girls' Tennis, coached by Mario Fiore, Tamara Simpson won All League, All Division, and All County honors.
The Football Team, coached by Terry Manning with Assistants Jim Mango and Joe Chetti, had a number of players who won awards. Preshod McCoy, Golden Ukonu, Matt Sonnenberg and Mike Morton all won All County and All League honors. Oscar Ward, Joe Martin, and Anthony Caruso were named All League. Dominic Sanchez, Joe Stamm, and Chris Keehner received All League Honorable Mention.
The Volleyball Team, coached by Greg Bentivegna, was a NYS Scholar Athlete Team.
