Parliament Place Reading Specialist Reinforces Reading and Writing

Working with teachers Lori Urban, Susan Bachety, Meg Ivy, and AnnaMarie Montuori, reading specialist Michelle Davis at Parliament Place had second graders honing their reading and writing skills by engaging in a number of activities. For instance, they kept writing workout booklets which covered the steps of the writing process, created a web to use with their writing projects, completed graphic organizers to use when writing biographies. They kept a journal of Fall topics, learned to use adjectives to enhance descriptive writing, and used their imagination to create a new town after reading “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.” In addition, they learned about couplets and haiku as they read and wrote poetry. They also wrote three paragraph summaries after listening to “The Great Kapok Tree” by Lynn Cherry. Pictured are four students from Mrs. Urban’s class showing their writing notebooks.
