Parliament Place Uses "Just Right Books" As Part of New Reading Program

Parliament Place is enjoying success using "Just Right Books" as part of their new reading program. The teachers teach a whole group mini lesson and discuss it with the children. Then they work on independent silent reading with a "Just Right Book" and find examples from the mini lesson within their own book. For instance, the class might read a book and discuss "character traits." The children will then read independently and jot down some of the character traits that they notice in characters in the book they are reading on their own. Then they come back to the entire group setting and discuss with their reading partners and the class the traits they found. Parliament Place has found this program to be very effective.
