Students Fly High as Junior Aviators

Students from Robert Moses Middle School participated in an intensive introduction to the world of aviation in a grant-funded program that was free to all participants. They were admitted to the competitive NYIT STEP (Science & Technology Entry Program) Aviation Program and traveled to the Central Islip NYIT campus for four days over school vacation to participate in educational activities.
Students engaged in hands-on lighter than air, winged flight and rocketry projects. They interacted with a wildlife specialist who brought hawks and falcons into the classroom. They each had a chance to experience the flight simulator at Dowling’s Aviation Center and enjoyed the interactive displays at the Cradle of Aviation Museum.
