Robert Moses Middle School students had the honor of attending an inspiring assembly on February 11 presented by Rohan Murphy, a wrestler with no legs but a huge heart who makes his living as a motivational speaker with a focus on overcoming adversity.
Rohan was born with a severe deformity and had to have both legs amputated at the age of four. Although wheelchair sports and weight lifting kept his upper body in shape, he struggled to find a place to satisfy his desire for athletic competition. He found that place on the wrestling mat and he became a decorated competitor in both high school and college as he attended East Islip High School and Penn State University.
Students listened raptly as Rohan talked about overcoming obstacles. His mantra of "No excuses. Never give up" resonated with them and many stayed behind to shake his hand, say thank you, and get an autograph. Make took him up on his offer to contact him through his Facebook page. They were grateful for the opportunity to be uplifted by this exceptional young man.
