NBTO Raises $7,455 for American Cancer Society
The North Babylon Teachers’ Organization participated in the Making Strides against Breast Cancer walk on October 18 at Jones Beach in conjunction with NYSUT, the New York State United Teachers, which was a flagship sponsor of the event. The NBTO raised $7,455 with the active chapter raising $5,055 and the retirees’ chapter raising over $2400. Contributions are still coming in for the American Cancer Society.
Participants had to battle cold temperatures, rain and gusting winds, but spirits were high. Underneath the drab winter colors, pink could be seen peeking out in support of the occasion. Many of the people there were cancer survivors with personal stories to tell, as well as their relatives and friends. Supporters and several schools across the island were also represented in this very important fundraiser.
