In Journalism and Website

The North Babylon Teachers' Organization received six journalism awards at the NYSUT Journalism Awards Celebration and Conference that was held March 27th at the Hilton Garden Inn in Troy, New York. In attendance to receive the awards was the NBTO's Editor, Pat Caraway. The NBTO won First Place for its website at www.nbto.org and received Awards of Merit in the following categories: Feature Story, News Story, Editorial Design, Opinion Writing, and Photography.

In Community Service

The North Babylon Teachers' Organization has once again this year received the New York State United Teachers' Local Community Service Award for the 14th year in a row. The NBTO participated in the Breast Cancer Walk at Jones Beach in October and raised $7,455. Then in December there was the Toy/Book Drive which helped well over 200 children from 80 families. In January came the Soup-er-Bowl Drive, a collection of non-perishable food items for the Town Annex Pantry. Other community service activities were a toiletries collection for St. Cyril and Methodius Thrift Shop, a Daffodil for Days Drive to raise money for the American Cancer Society, a Food Drive in April for local families, and a Soldier Drive of care packages for military personnel serving overseas. The NBTO also gives four scholarships each year to deserving seniors.

Coordinating all of these events was the Public Relations Committee, chaired by Jeanne Saeli and composed of representatives from each building.
