NB Boys Track Team Captures League and County Titles: Berfrantz Charles Wins States in Long Jump
The Spring Boys Track Team, coached by Thomas Duffy, captured the League III championship this season, finishing undefeated at 6-0. This marks the first time since 1998 that the boys have won the league title.
The Bulldogs advanced to the Suffolk Championships and took the Suffolk County League II Championship on May 28th for the first time since 1995. They were led by Berfrantz Charles who posted first place wins in the long jump and 200 meter dash, George Erazo who took first place in the 400, Marvin Mandat who had a second place in the 110 hurdles, James Ward with a second place in the 3,200 and Shaun Blackman with a second place in the discus.
Coach Duffy was named both League III and Division 2 Coach of the Year. The following boys qualified for All-County: George Erazo in the 400 meter dash and 4x100 meter relay, Terrence Granger (All County Academic) in the 110 meter hurdles, Shaun Blackman in the shot put, Marvin Mandat in the 4x100 meter relay, Rayshawn Jones in the 4x100 meter relay, and Berfrantz Charles in the long jump, 100 meter dash and 4x100 meter relay.
Berfrantz Charles was All Long Island. He was also the NYSPHSAA State Champion Division I in the long jump with a jump of 23-6 in the final.
