Girls' Soccer Team Has 10 Game Winning Streak, Reaches Playoffs
The 2009 North Babylon Girls’ Varsity Soccer team concluded one of the program's most successful seasons this year. The high hopes in preseason were tempered by a rash of early season injuries. Nine players were out for multiple games (two were lost for the season) as the team played their non-league and early part of their league schedule to a 3-4-1 record.
However, when the calendar turned to October the Lady Bulldogs turned their season around with a ten game winning streak. When the dust cleared, the Girls’ Soccer Team was League III Co-champions and made it all the way to the Suffolk County Final Four in the playoffs. This marks the first time since 1989 that the girls' team made the semifinals of the playoffs and the third consecutive season the team has won a league championship.
The season was a complete team effort as the Lady Bulldogs were led by captains Bria Hartley, Adrianna Gibbins, and Emily Walsh. A number of players were recognized by the Suffolk County Girls’ Soccer Coaches Association for their outstanding play on the field. Adrianna Gibbins and Catherine Sandkuhl were All-League selections. Emily Greco and Christine Campanello were All-Conference selections. Emily Ude, Casey Filippone, and Bria Hartley were All-County selections. Bria Hartley was also named the League III Player of the Year. Hartley posted a 5-3-1 (2 shutouts) record as a goalkeeper for the first half of the season and scored seven goals and assisted on seven goals as a forward in the second half of the season. Hartley concluded her career with 33 goals, which is 4th on the all-time program list.
Coach Steve Corrado received League III Coach of the Year honors, and the team was named a "NYS Scholar Athlete Team" because the team’s GPA was above 90 percent.
