HS Forensic Science Classes Learn About Car Crash Investigation

Gregory Bentivegna's SUPA Forensic Science classes at the high school were visited by Officer Ken Bentivegna of the United States Park Police.  Officer Bentivegna gave a lecture on crash investigation and walked students through the basics of a vehicular accident scene. The many crash scene photos he brought, as well as powerful schematic software, allowed students to see how math and physics are being used in a real world forensic setting.
Officer Bentivegna stressed the role of alcohol in a large majority of crash investigations, and students learned how powerful the tool of observation is to a forensic scientist.   The Officer explained that the examination of specific marks on tires, road surfaces, and vehicles brings a wealth of  information to an investigating officer. In this valuable lesson, students got to hear first hand accounts of how forensic science works outside of the classroom and to see how what they learn is applied in a real world setting.
