RMMS Builds Leveled Book Collection to Aid Literacy

As part of the Literacy Initiative, staff members at Robert Moses Middle School have begun a leveled book collection. Leveled books have been organized in accordance with their level of difficulty and in terms of how they support and challenge children’s literacy development. They are an important component of the materials teachers need to support literacy learning. With all this in mind, staff at RMMS placed books for each guided reading level consecutively together by level so that when teachers look at the clearly labeled areas, they have an instant visual picture of the total collection for each level. The task was approached strategically and additional resources will be acquired over time. This reservoir of books will be a gathering place for casual but important conversations about books and learning for children in the middle school and over time will be expanded to enhance literacy in the school.
